The marque was founded in 1875 by Inocencio Álvarez and Mannin García. The name came from Shakespeare's play, another favourite read aloud to the rollers.
In the late nineteenth century it collected several gold medals at tasting exhibitions.
In 1903 the business passed to Pepín Rodríguez Fernández, who made bespoke cigars for well-known customers. One of them was Winston Churchill — the origin of the Churchill vitola at 7 inches by 47 ring gauge.
